Celebrating the 80th Anniversary of the Republic of Indonesia, the Red and White Flag Was Raised Underwater in Wondama Bay

Wondama, West Papua | August 14, 2025
To celebrate the 80th anniversary of Indonesian Independence, the Cenderawasih Bay National Park Authority (BBTNTC) and PT Palapa Timur Telematika (PTT) held a flag-raising ceremony underwater in Wondama Bay, West Papua. The raising location was approximately 400 meters from Apimasum Island, at a depth of 10 meters.

Ten certified divers from BBTNTC, PTT, BAKTI Kominfo Digital (Komdigi), and representatives from the local community participated in the flag-raising ceremony. This event was also broadcast live online and marked the first time for BBTNTC and PTT to hold an underwater flag ceremony.

The flag-raising location was chosen not far from a coral reef transplant field, where 100 spider webs were planted in collaboration between BBTNTC and PTT as part of an environmental conservation program in the Cenderawasih Bay National Park area.

The President Director of BAKTI Kominfo Digital, who participated in the dive, expressed his appreciation for the success and national spirit demonstrated by the participants, especially PTT, as one of BAKTI's main stakeholders in the East Palapa Ring project.

This activity not only symbolized the spirit of independence but also demonstrated the synergy between environmental conservation and national infrastructure development, as well as a shared commitment to safeguarding Indonesia's natural resources, particularly marine ecosystems, which are vital assets for the nation's future.
