To support efforts to preserve marine ecosystems in conservation areas, PT Palapa Timur Telematika (PTT) and the Cenderawasih Bay National Park Authority (BBTNTC) are once again conducting coral reef transplantation activities in the waters of Cenderawasih Bay National Park. This activity is part of an annual program that has entered its fourth year since its inception in 2020.
A total of 100 spider web-shaped planting media units were lowered to the seabed, yielding 1,951 coral reef seedlings. As of this year, a total of 340 spider nets have been installed, covering a rehabilitation area of approximately 340 square meters.
This transplantation activity not only involves partners and stakeholders from the telecommunications sector, such as BAKTI Kominfo Digital (Komdigi), Palapa Ring Barat, PT Len Telekomunikasi Indonesia, PT Telkom Indonesia, and Telkomsel, but also local communities from the areas surrounding the national park.
Community groups from Yomakan Village, such as Mama Ira, Tapapai, and Somus, actively participated in the transplantation process, from preparation and planting to post-transplant monitoring. Their presence is a crucial part of the collaborative, community-based approach to maintaining the sustainability of marine resources.
This activity demonstrates PTT's environmental responsibility for the construction of the Palapa Ring Timur fiber optic backbone network infrastructure that traverses the Cenderawasih Bay National Park area in Central Papua and West Papua. Through synergy between the government, the private sector, and local communities, it is hoped that the coral reef ecosystem will continue to be maintained and provide long-term benefits to the environment and the lives of coastal communities.
