In commemoration of National Education Day on May 2, 2025, partners at PT Palapa Timur Telematika and the Moratel Group initiated a book donation drive as a form of concern for children's education in Papua. Dozens of books were gradually collected from that date, with a simple hope: to reach more children with access to appropriate and inspiring reading material.
After the collection and curation process, 185 books were successfully collected and officially handed over on June 14, 2025, to the Mahardika Foundation, which oversees the Mahardika Reading House in Warmon Village, Kokoda, South Sorong Regency. This handover was carried out in collaboration with the Papua Care Community (KOMPIPA), which played a role in liaising and distributing aid to the location.
The Mahardika Reading House serves as a learning and literacy space for at least 50 students from the surrounding area. Through this book donation, it is hoped that the reading house will become even more vibrant as a center for fostering reading interest and a place for children to discover the world through the pages of books.
The book donation event also included a welcome and thanks from the Warmon village head, Mr. Syamsudin Arina Mukur, and a symbolic handover of books and assistance to the Mahardika and Kompipa foundations.
Furthermore, the day's activities included a shared story reading session, which encouraged the children to use their imaginations, as well as educational games that created a cheerful and lively atmosphere. The children's laughter and enthusiasm served as a reminder that a simple presence can have a meaningful impact.
This initiative is tangible evidence of PT Palapa Timur Telematika's commitment and collaboration with the local community to opening a window to the future for the young generation in Papua. Hopefully, this small step will serve as encouragement to continue supporting equitable and meaningful education throughout Indonesia.
