To support environmental conservation, PTT and BBTNTC conduct coral reef transplantation and turtle release in Wondama Bay, West Papua.

Wondama Bay - West Papua | July 31, 2024
Wednesday, July 31, 2024. The Yomakan Village community and several groups assisted by the Cenderawasih Bay National Park Center gathered on Apimasum Island for a coral reef transplantation activity.

PT Palapa Timur Telematika (PTT), the Implementing Business Entity for the East Palapa Ring Project, is committed to environmental conservation, as evidenced by its transplantation activities with BBTNTC. This commitment has been carried out three times since 2021.

A total of 100 spider webs, known as spider webs, containing 10 to 15 coral seedlings, were released around Apimasum Island. The location was chosen based on the limited number of coral reefs in the area, due to natural factors, human activity, and other factors.

Previously, 140 transplant nets had been planted and are thriving around Apimasum Island. With the addition of 100 spider webs, a total of 240 square meters of coral reef seedlings have been planted, which will become a home for marine life.

PTT also supports the Mama Ira group, a women's group dedicated to caring for the marine ecosystem around Yomakan Village. The donation of swimsuits and material assistance is expected to encourage this group's continued contribution to conservation.

In addition to the transplantation activities, PTT, in collaboration with the BBTNC, also released 60 turtles in Isenebuai Village. This collaboration is in collaboration with the Pibata Group, a turtle conservation group. All the turtles released were eggs laid by the Pibata group's relocation.

"We are pleased with the collaboration between BBTNTC and PTT, allowing us to participate in nature conservation. Hopefully, we can continue to foster collaboration with the Mama Ira and Pibata groups in the future, as this collaboration ensures the continued conservation of coral reefs and turtles. They need our support, and we need theirs. Hopefully, we can also promote this through tourism, so that more people know what we can do here, not just to promote PTT, but to promote the natural environment in this area." Eddy Siahaan - PTT Operations Director.

"Thank you to PTT for our seven years with TNTC. We have collaborated on many things, including providing facilities and infrastructure and field activities, such as this transplantation, which has been carried out three times. We hope that this collaboration will be even more beneficial for the community in Cenderawasih Bay National Park in the future." - Supartono - Head of the Cenderawasih Bay National Park Center.
