Palapa Ring Opens Telecommunications Access to Remote Areas of the Republic of Indonesia

Palapa Ring, sometimes referred to as the Sky Toll, is a national fiber optic network development project that spans 34 provinces and 440 cities/regencies across Indonesia, including Rote Ndao Regency, located at the southernmost tip of Indonesia.
A socialization about free Wi-Fi at the Network Operation Center took place in Ngodimeda Village, Rote Tengah District, Rote Ndao Regency, East Nusa Tenggara Province, on Monday, March 9, 2020.
Aleksius Madu, Project Coordinator of PT Palapa Timur Telematika for Region IX in the East Nusa Tenggara region, explained to reporters that the telecommunications network project is called Palapa Ring Timur and covers the regions of NTT, Maluku, and Papua. The purpose of the activity was to socialize about free Wi-Fi at the Network Operation Center (NOC) in Waingapu, Sabu, Baa, and Kupang.
He further explained that the presence of Wi-Fi in Rote Ndao Regency will be very helpful for the Rote Ndao community. Interconnections will be built by providers, who will also be supported at several points in the Rote Ndao region to reach all corners of Rote Ndao Regency.
"The coverage will be for the entire Rote Ndao region. For now, our provider is Telkom, and other providers such as XL, Indosat, and others will follow," he said.
He added that this project was initiated by President Joko Widodo through the Ministry of Communication and Information Technology. The implementing partner for the Palapa Ring Timor project is PT Palapa Timur Telematika, which will cover the regions of NTT, Maluku, and Papua.
Meanwhile, the Head of the Rote Tengah District, Marten Muskanan, S.Sos., when contacted by reporters via cell phone regarding the Network Operation Center's free Wi-Fi socialization activity, expressed his highest appreciation, gratitude, and gratitude to the government. The Palapa Ring program has enabled the entire Rote Ndao community to access information and communication on health, community education, development, and other issues, ensuring they remain informed.
"This free Wi-Fi network will reach all corners of the Rote Ndao region. The substation, built by PT Palapa Timur Telematika in the Rote Tengah district, is expected to be accessible to all Rote Ndao residents, ensuring they remain informed on education, health, community affairs, and development," said the Head of the Rote Tengah District.
