Mamberamo Raya | July 20, 2018
Minister of Communication and Information Rudiantara, along with BAKTI President Director Anang Latif and Sikari Village Head Obed Sibetai, discussed cellular telecommunications access via BAKTI's BTS in Sikari Village, Mamberamo Raya, Papua, Tuesday (07/17/2018) - (mth)
Minister of Communication and Informatics Rudiantara became the first Minister to set foot in Mamberamo Raya, Papua. During a working visit to the interior of Papua Province on Tuesday (July 17, 2018), the Minister of Communication and Informatics was welcomed in traditional manner by Mamberamo Raya Regent Dorinus Dasinapa and the community, demonstrating their enthusiasm for the presence of a central government representative in their home.
The Minister of Communication and Informatics, accompanied by the President Director of the Telecommunication and Information Accessibility Agency (BAKTI), walked with the Mamberamo Raya Regent and the community to the meeting place, a guest house in Kasonajewa.
In his remarks, the Minister of Communication and Informatics stated that the Indonesian government is currently developing infrastructure. "Our brothers and sisters in the western region have had signal access because initial development focused on locations with existing customers. Since the Jokowi administration, development must be evenly distributed from Merauke to Sabang and Miangas to Rote. Especially in Papua, Maluku, all the way to the southern Aru Islands and Saumlaki, a high-speed internet backbone network will be built. By 2019, there will be no more districts in Indonesia without a high-speed internet backbone network," he explained.
According to Minister Rudiantara, the East Palapa Ring for the Mamberamo Raya area will be built in Kampung Burmeso. "In Mamberamo Raya, construction of the NOC (National Telecommunication Center) in Burmeso Village has begun. There's no need to wait until 2019. Through the BAKTI Public Service Agency, nine BTS towers have been built, transmitting cellular signals for the public to use. The Regent is encouraged to propose the construction of at least 10 more BTS towers," he continued.
Concluding his visit to Mamberamo Raya, the Minister of Communication and Informatics took the time to visit the BTS site in Sikari Village and meet with the Village Head, Obed Sibetai. In a warm conversation with the Minister, the village head expressed his desire for the Minister to build a road in his village.
The Minister spontaneously responded that his role was to provide telecommunications access. "I'm the Minister of Signals, sir, not the minister who builds roads. Please request more usable signals so everyone can use their cell phones. We will build more BTS towers," he said.
On the same occasion, BAKTI President Director Anang Latif stated that his company supports achieving the target of fast internet access throughout Indonesia, especially in rural areas. BAKTI will utilize foreign-owned satellites while awaiting the completion of the BAKTI Satellite procurement process over the next three years. The BAKTI Satellite, with its high-throughput technology, will support Indonesia's fast internet program and 5,000 BTS. (BAKTI/*)
